Juris Bunkis, M.D., F.A.C.S. is an innovative plastic surgeon and teacher who specializes in aesthetic surgery. Patients from around the globe travel to seek his expertise. Dr. Bunkis and his staff are dedicated professionals who are committed to achieving the best possible aesthetic result for each patient. Dr. Bunkis sees patients both at his 5-Star practice in South Orange County, located in the Tomas Professional Center (30212 Tomas, Suite 275) in Rancho Santa Margarita, as well as in Northern California in the Arlen Ness Building (second floor, 6050 Dublin Boulevard) in Dublin, California.
Upon graduating from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1974, Dr. Bunkis completed a general surgery residency at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Columbia University in New York and the Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard University in Boston. This was followed by board certification in general surgery. He subsequently returned to Harvard University to complete a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Children’s Hospital and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital complex. In 1981, he joined the plastic surgery faculty at the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine, as a full time, Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery. During this time, Dr. Bunkis served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at the San Francisco General Hospital. Dr. Bunkis has been in private practice, specializing in aesthetic surgery, since 1984.
Dr. Bunkis is a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, among them the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society for Aesthetic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Plastic Surgery Research Council, the Canadian Society for Aesthetic (Cosmetic) Plastic Surgery, the Latvian Medical and Dental Association, the California Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Bariatric Plastic Surgeons. He has operated, lectured and presented scientific papers throughout North America and Europe. Dr. Bunkis has published a wide range of scientific articles and has also contributed numerous chapters to various medical textbooks on the subject of plastic surgery.
Dr. Bunkis has operated on indigent children in Central America for many years. In 1995, in recognition of his volunteer efforts, Dr. Bunkis was knighted by the Cavelieri Di San Marco (Knights of St. Marc) in Venice, Italy. He served on the Board of Directors of the Hospital de la Familia Foundation as well as the Tassajara Valley Little League and the Nor Cal Baseball Club. In 2000, he received the Angel Wings Award for his philanthropic work. And in 2001, a full feature film Dr. Bunkis helped produce won the Silver Medal at the Houston Film Festival. Dr. Bunkis is a volunteer deputy with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, serving on the Special Services Bureau. Dr. Bunkis also serves as a volunteer with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, with the Aero Squadron. Dr. Bunkis is an instrument rated, commercial jet pilot. In 2006, Dr. Bunkis was honored by receiving the Man of Character Award, presented by the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America, in recognition of his philanthropic work.

Dr. Bunkis is happily married to his beloved wife, Tina. They have adult children. Dr. Bunkis and Tina both enjoy a variety of activities such as flying, motorcycling, traveling, gardening and spending quality time with their family.
